Why choose remote internal auditing?
The ISO 19011:2018, Guidelines for auditing management systems – is the standard utilized worldwide by auditors conducting management system audits. The 2011 revision of this standard already recognized the validity of using remote audit as a valid method for conducting audits – provided some conditions were met.
The remote internal audit is an audit where platforms such as Skype, Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams, AdobeConnect, etc. are used to carry out the audit activities by the auditor or audit team.
To guarantee an effective result of the remote audit process, there are 5 important conditions to be met:
- A fair assessment of the management system or portions of it can be conducted, including the
assignment of auditors that are highly skilled using remote auditing technologies as well
experienced with the industry being audited. - There is enough confidence that all parties will behave ethically.
- Technology is available.
- A good level of informatization is in place, i.e., documents are stored electronically.
- Confidentiality protocols can be kept.
Audit activities conducted remotely may include:
- Opening and Closing Meetings
- Interviews with auditees
- Evaluation of documented information (documents, records, etc.)
- Evaluation of sites / processes where the auditor will be guiding a company person using smartphones or other video gadgets.
